2017 is a big year.This is New Ventures second year and there is a lot on the line. Not only for the startup teams but for New Ventures too!
We had a great BIG selection of teams that entered the New Ventures Challenge again. Over 200 hundred applications were reviewed and not that there is any pressure to select a winning team that will deliver ROI. Or to prep them to pitch to a select crowd of discerning investors, prepare for voting and final awards that are only distributed once a notebook full of due diligence is fine tooth combed into a manageable series of things like stock subscriptions, corporate structures and intellectual property assignments. But the real challenge converts into an accelerator when the teams are faced with the prospect of failure. Basically - get them ready by simply lighting the fuse. Someone once told me that time is the great test of things. It does not negotiate, it does not pardon absence or incompetence. It is simply there and it is marking progress and judging you.
I challenge them - that they have no idea
what they are up against. So startup entrepreneurs who do not know me very well tend to assume I am just a grumpy guy, but nothing could be further from the truth. It is just that I take this very seriously because they will run out of time.
